If you are not looking to power your entire home in the event of a power outage but would like the option to power certain circuits without the hassle of running numerous extension cords, a portable generator connection may be the right option for you. We can install a manual transfer switch or we can upgrade your electrical service to include an interlock (see below for more details on each option). DeGraaf Electrical serves Pace, Milton, Pensacola, Gulf Breeze, Cantonment, and the surrounding areas. Call our office today to schedule an appointment for a free estimate!
The interlock service panel upgrade replaces your existing service panel with a main breaker panel with a mechanical interlock that will allow you to power circuits in the main service panel and in the sub-panel. You must manually manage the loads as a portable generator will not be able to power all circuits in both panels all at one time. Combined with a 30 amp or 50 amp generator inlet, this would mean less hassle when using your portable generator. Both the manual transfer switch option and the interlock option include a generator cord.
A second portable generator connection option is the manual transfer switch. This option is less versatile than the interlock panel in that it will only allow you to power a single circuit such as the circuit that feeds your sub-panel. The sub-panel is where the circuits for all of your lights and outlets would be. Combined with a 30 amp or 50 amp generator inlet, this would mean less hassle when using your portable generator. Both the manual transfer switch option and the interlock option include a generator cord.
